Allen Bradley Micro Logix 1500 System has been selected
to co-ordinate the functions of the "Computer Controlled
Gravel Spreader". This controller is of the latest
technology of packaged controllers with world class features
and performance. Many of these new features allow this
programmable logic controller to be used in applications
were much larger controllers were required in the past.
Therefore, this compact and powerful unit is ideally suited
to this application.
Combining this controller with a mobile GSM modem, allows
remote access to the PLC program to perform remote program
updates, remote field support / stoppage analysis and
the ability to upload data logging of previous operational
history. This enhancement has proven to be a powerful
management tool providing the ability to extract operational
history of the spreader box whilst at the same time dramatically
reducing any mechanical downtime in the field, without
the need to directly access the operational vehicle. |

A state of the art Festo Valve Terminal
has been utilized to control the Festo pneumatic cylinders.
This compact valve bank provides an extremely high number
of switching cycles, flow rates equal to valves several
times the size, fast switching times and low wattage coils
(allowing direct interface to PLC). The onboard LED’s
allows visual status monitoring, whilst the multi pin
wiring connector allows quick in-field changeover if required.
Festo pneumatic cylinders have been chosen due to the
quality and reliability of the product. The particular
model chosen has the longest life cycle available. This
